A 56K Internet connection can be used for one of the following:

Connect a network of less than 20 machines to the Internet and use an e-mail gateway.
Run a medium-sized server for Internet WWW, E-Mail, and/or Gopher.
Run a small server for Internet FTP.

56K circuits are often used to connect medium-sized corporate networks to the Internet (typically, more than 20 computers), or for Web sites that contain a large amount of data or involved, complicated programming, but expect only a moderate number of visits.

In most cases, the 56K circuit is the least expensive way to get a highly reliable digital circuit; however, prices are determined on a case by case basis.
